Art as a part of special needs youth work

Cultural special needs youth work (KENT)

The goal of the project Cultural special needs youth work in 2017-2021 was to develop art and cultural activities and establish them as a part of special needs youth work.

The aim was to design and develop activities together with special needs youth work that will allow the employees of different parties and operators to meet and share information and experiences. We also produced continuing training and workshops for those who do special needs youth work, where art professionals and young people with special needs meet in connection with art.

Cultural special needs youth work was advanced in cooperation with outreach youth work (Vamos). We offered job opportunities for professional artists and trained professionals from different fields who work with young people with special needs to take advantage of art-based and creative methods in their own everyday work. The project also gave us an opportunity to learn more about working with young people with special needs and develop our own art education activities in this way.

Art institution partners: the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), Amos Rex, Q-teatteri.

"KENT – cultural special needs youth work. Taiteen äärellä vahvistumista" (Becoming stronger with art, in Finnish) is a publication describing art-based methods and how they are used with young people in KENT workshops. You can download the publication here.
